Brand Spotlight: Keratin Complex by Coppola

January 5th, 2011

Keratin hair treatments have caught on like wildfire.  Women rave about having smooth hair without the hefty price tag of permanent hair damage, and Keratin Complex by Coppola is one brand that leads the pack in this breakthrough hair treatment.  The ability to choose between frizz free natural curls and straight hair is a breakthrough in the hair care game.  The Smoothing Treatment is a salon treatment that should be applied by a professional.  While many salon keratin treatments contain small amounts of formaldehyde, Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatment does NOT.  The results can last from 3 to a whopping 6 to 8 months, and will gradually fade from the hair without creating demarcation between new growth and treated hair.

It was founded by Peter Coppola, a renowned professional stylist, and the line features many wonderful hair care products.  There are a couple of standouts designed to aid the longevity of the salon treatment.  They contain high amounts of keratin, and some women find that they work so well, they are able to achieve the texture they want at home.

Keratin Complex Intense Rx is a high protein, ionic restructuring serum that is packed with more than 25% pure keratin.  Smooth this into the hair prior to blow out for remarkable improvement in the elasticity and strength of the hair.  It is not loaded with silicones that weigh the hair down – there are only two lightweight “cones”.  Leave the serum in for 15 minutes, preferably with heat from a hooded dryer or Hair Therapy Wrap, and then style.

Keratin Complex Infusion Keratin Replenisher is designed to extend the life of the salon treatment.  It infuses keratin proteins and emollients into the hair, and seals the cuticle with the heat of the blow dryer.  It can be used alone or with Intense Rx.

The Great Straight – It’s All About The Blow Out (Part 2)

November 12th, 2010

A skillful blow out really does make all the difference in the style of your hair. A bad blow out will singe your hair and dry it out, leaving it susceptible to damage. A great blow out means silky smooth hair and style that lasts. So how do you learn the secrets to working your hair like a pro?

Meet Rachel Swire, owner of Salon Cabelo in Atlanta, GA. An amazing stylist, Rachel is all about healthy hair and keeps her own hair relaxer-free. She really exploits the full potential and versatility of her natural texture, switching easily from straight hair to two-strand twists to Farrah Fawcett curls for a fun change of pace. If you still have questions about achieving your best blow-dry technique, check out her videos.

Great styling starts with great hair. Try some of Rachel’s favorite tools and products.

You may also want to try some of those nifty FHI T-Rex clips Rachel mentioned in her video – in red, pink, black, and white.

If you have natural hair, one problem you will have to combat is reversion – reverting back to the natural texture. Many women make the mistake of flat ironing their hair EVERY time it starts to poof and frizz and frying their hair in the process. If this is you

STOP!

You need to re-evaluate your hair care. If your hair is healthy and properly blow-dried, you can probably get about a week from one flat ironing. According to Rachel, sealing the cuticle to keep out the humidity is critical to the longevity of your styling. Two of her favorite sealing products to prep the hair for blow drying are…

Natural Hair Blog Stars

November 11th, 2010

You want to grow out your relaxer. On an intellectual level, you know there’s something kind of twisted about paying someone to destroy your hair. But often, a few inches of hard-to-manage new growth is enough to send you screaming back to the salon. Traditional shampoos are just not designed to work well with ethnic hair. And, truthfully, you just haven’t found a natural style that sits well with you aesthetically. Shamefully, natural styles aren’t considered “professional” enough in many settings.

Meet three stars who wear their natural hair with amazing self-confidence and uncompromised femininity. Their blogs will guide you through the murky waters of transitioning hair. They’ll introduce you to “co-washing” and “no-poo”. After all, there’s a lot more to African American hair than relaxers, afros, braids, and dreads!

Afrobella

Patrice Elizabeth Grell Yursik, aka “Afrobella” put down the creamy crap in 2002 and embraced her natural kink. She started Afrobella.com in 2006 to celebrate natural hair and all shades of beautiful. A confessed product junkie, she loves trying out everything new in beauty and reviewing it for her readers. The blog is chock full of interesting bits on culture, music, fashion, beauty… and, of course, hair.

On a trip to Ft. Lauderdale, a stylist introduced her to a fabulous deep conditioning treatment – DevaCurl Heaven in Hair combined with hot oil. She says Heaven in Hair was “super hydrating”. This is a great treatment to do with Hair Therapy Wrap.

Motown Girl

This blog is all about natural hair care and it is exhaustive in its detail. She offers lots of natural and home made hair care recipes. With great articles on developing a “no-poo” routine and other important topics, this is a great resource for women who want to transition. One of her favorite products for conditioning is Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm – she gave it 4.5 stars out of five!

Curly Nikki

This is one of the most respected blogs on natural hair care and styling. “Curly Nikki” Walton has a wealth of helpful product reviews. She sports the fiercest Twist N’ Curl you’ve ever seen, and has inspired many women to follow suit. Two of her Holy Grail products for “must have” perfect hair- DevaCurl One Condition and Set it Free.
