Ever Bamboo HEI Charcoal Face + Body Bar

April 5th, 2012

Hey there, Beauty Queens!

Miss Bonnified here with a somewhat interesting bar of soap to try out.

As you may know from my previous post, I got really really sunburned. My skin from the neck down still hasn’t exactly recuperated. I’m tired of seeing cracked skin and feeling like I’m stretched out like a drum.

Enter Ever Bamboo Face + Body Bar to the rescue. If you’ve been reading my blog (more specifically, this entry about coconut oil), you’ll know I’ve been fixated on this stuff for a little while.

I figured it might be a good time to treat my skin to the same stuff I’m gulping down in my morning smoothies. Here’s some initial pictures of the product and some thoughts.

I got this size because I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I figured a travel sized bar would be good to try out for a few weeks.

Yes, the soap is black.

The soap really is this color. No, this is not a trick. That’s because it’s made out of bamboo charcoal.

From Frizzy2Silky’s website, here’s a brief description of the product :

Bamboo Charcoal Face + Body Bar restores the natural beauty of your skin by purifying, exfoliating, moisturizing, detoxifying, and absorbing impurities. Bamboo Charcoal has a negative ionic charge that also helps stimulate blood flow and has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Each bar is handmade to perfection and is fabulous for sensitive as well as problem skin. With daily use, you will truly appreciate the improved radiance, texture and tone of your skin.

Bamboo vinegar, a byproduct created during the process that turns bamboo into bamboo charcoal, is known as chikusaku in Japan. It’s been used as a topical treatment for a wide variety of ailments. This is not the edible kind of vinegar, in case you’re wondering. I liked the part where it’s supposed to soften skin.

Coconut acid is the part that caught my eye. Used in small amounts, this is great for sensitive skin and even children’s skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil is very moisterizing.

Lavender smells divine and is very calming. Actually, the more I sniff this soap, the more I’m convinced that there’s also a….a…woodsy, evergreen-y oil too. I could be wrong.

All in all, the smell reminds me of what would happen if a lavender field made a baby with a Christmas tree. Weird analogy, I know, but that’s what it reminds me of.

In my next review, I’ll be going into detail about what it was like to use it.

If you can’t wait for my thoughts about this and want to try it NOW, use coupon code BONNIE10 at checkout to save yourself 10%.

Till next time!

MissBonnified’s First Post – glotherapeutics

August 1st, 2011

:: Posted by Bonnie N. Clyde ::

Hi everyone!

My name is Bonnie N. Clyde.  Some of you may be familiar with me around the internet and from my own blog at missbonnified.com but if we’re meeting for the first time, allow me to welcome to you to the beauty blog for Frizzy2Silky.com!

I will be posting here exclusively a few times a month.  I’ll be focusing on some products that I’ve personally tried and provide honest reviews.  I’d like to say that just because something didn’t work the best for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for you so don’t be afraid to give it a whirl.

For my readers out there – Here’s an exclusive checkout code from me to you!

All you have to do at check out is use the code “BONNIE10″ and you’ll receive 10% off your entire purchase before shipping and applicable taxes.

Let the beauty bonanza begin!

First up, a little background info on me.

My name is Bonnie and I’m engaged.  I’m getting married in December of 2011.  It’s now August.  For all you been-there-done-that married ladies out there, you know my pain.  These next couple of months have been christened by me as Wedding Crunch Time. For the girls in a similar boat (i.e. engaged and in the process of wedding planning) and the ladies who have yet to sport that rock on that almighty finger, let me give you a brief, two sentence summary of what typically happens in the remaining 3 months before Your Big Day.

This is the time when things go from chill to a screaming frenzy of manic activity at a rate of 0-60 in 0.8 seconds tops.  Everything starts to gear up for action RIGHT.NOW all at the same time and you’re at the eye of the tornado of action.

Sounds delightful, right? I think I deal with stress sublimely but my skin doesn’t seem to handle it quite as well.

In other words, when I stress out, I tend to break out.  Not sexy.

I also have oily/combination skin.  My T-Zone is really, really oily. By that, I mean you can almost grease a car with what my face produces.  It’s so sad.

My only comfort is in knowing that I won’t have major problems with wrinkles as I get older.  I’m also hoping I’ll have less bouts of big ass pimples too.

So what’s a bride-to-be supposed to do when zit big enough to apply for its own zip code erupts on her face during these stressful months? She fights back. Here’s what I noticed about glotherapeutics’s gloClear Acne Cleanser and gloPurifying Tonic.

GloTherapeutics gloClear Acne Cleanser

Active ingredient = 2% salicylic acid.

I really like this cleanser.  I like it a lot.  I love the little beads because, call me crazy, but I feel like they’re really doing their job and opening up my pores so that the cleansers and the salicylic acid can get down in there to clean house.

I hate it when a cleanser makes my skin feel tight and look super shiny because it got so dried out.  I was half expecting that to happen with the gloClear Acne Cleanser but it didn’t.  My skin, amazingly, stayed supple and didn’t feel like it was about to crack in a million places when I smiled. That’s a definite plus since I’m going to be basically a grinning monkey on the day of the wedding.

After drying my face, my skin felt clean and, thanks to the little beads, smooth.  It also didn’t feel like it was sucked dry.

I love tonics.  I love them because I like seeing all the residual stuff that didn’t get washed away on the cotton pad.  I don’t know why I like seeing that. Maybe it’s because it makes me feel like now my skin is SUPER extra clean! Hooray!!

This tonic is GREAT for my oily skin.  According to the description, it’s pretty much good for everyone except those who have dry skin.

After using this, my skin felt calmed down, soothed, refreshed and extra clean.  It also felt like it was ready for the serums I was about to treat it to.

Both these products can be used together both day and night.

In the next post about beauty products stuff, I will be giving away a gloSpa gift set!  More details on that next time.

In the meantime, if you like what you’ve seen so far and want to try it out for yourself or someone you know, remember to use “BONNIE10″ at the checkout and save yourself 10% on your entire order!

Till next time, Beauty Queens!

Anti-Aging Skin Treatments that Live Up to the Hype

January 11th, 2011

With all the inflated claims of “skin care miracles”, it’s easy to get frustrated. No skin care line is complete without a “breakthrough” product, but they can’t all be breakthroughs, now can they?  Spending $50 on the latest and greatest product is no guarantee of results.

However, plenty of research has gone into figuring out what makes those wrinkles happen for the simple fact that there are plenty of women willing to invest in making sure that they don’t.  Those smarty-pants scientists have figured out a few things!  By now it is common knowledge that taking certain steps will improve your skin and keep it youthful.  A solid anti-aging regimen is really built around three main things:

  • Sun protection
  • Exfoliation
  • Topical Vitamins A,C, and E.

Sun protection is critical, as sun damage is the leading cause of visible skin aging.  Just looking at the body parts that receive the most sun exposure is proof of this.  Ignore all those SPF warnings at your own risk.  Exfoliation is something that young skin does for itself on its own, but aging skin needs a little help turning over its own cells.  Mechanical scrubs, AHAs, and BHAs provide this critical step.

Topical vitamins are where you replace all those wonderful nutrients and antioxidants that Father Time is slowly depleting.  This is where you boost your collagen, defend your skin against free radicals, and firm the skin.

Philessential Antioxidant Serum Capsules are cleverly  designed to stabilize their potent vitamin compound until you are ready to smooth it onto your skin.  These capsules contain complexion-friendly Vitamins A, C, and E oils that smooth the skin and improve elasticity.  The individual packaging ensures that the volatile ingredients remain fresh and protected from oxygen exposure.

If you are beginning to see fine lines, Cellex-C Advanced-C Serum is a topical Vitamin C that reverses the signs, improves elasticity, and smooths the skin.

Double Duty Beauty

January 4th, 2011

Your beauty basket runneth over.  Some of that stuff you bought because you needed it (or at least you really thought so).  Some of it wooed you with great advertising.  Some of it was just too gosh darn cute.

The good news is, many products are a lot more than just a one trick pony.  They morph into a multi-use affair with the addition of common ingredients found around the house, or even as they are.

Conditioner

A good daily use conditioner is a necessary staple, especially for those who need to wash their hair often.  It has to get the job done without being too heavy or creating build up.  Paul Mitchell’s The Conditioner is an excellent buy that has stood the test of time.  It was part of the original three products that launched the line back in the 80′s and it still garners praise from the industry.

Double Duty: If your hair tends to be dry, or if you are a curly, you could really stand to skip the shampoo step all together and do a conditioner-only wash.  These products have enough mild surfactants to cleanse without the stripping and tangling.  For a clarifying wash, add a bit of baking soda to your conditioner.  This will help get rid of any product build up and freshen the scalp.

Get this – you can also use conditioner in place of shaving cream!

Mild Facial Cleansers

A gentle, emollient, water soluble (easily rinsed) cleanser is a good idea for all skin types.  Even if you have oily skin, deep cleansing products aren’t necessary every time you wash your face.  You want to retain moisture balance without stripping the skin.  At night, when you want to remove your makeup and get rid of impurities from the day, Dermalogica UltraCalming Cleanser is a gel-cream that will sooth the skin and effectively remove cosmetic products and dirt.

Double Duty: A mixture of equal parts baking soda and gentle cleanser make a great exfoliating scrub.  As you age, the skin does not slough away dead cells on its own as easily as younger skin.  Exfoliating boosts cell turnover, gets rid of flaking skin, and leaves you with a healthy glow.

Moisture-Rich Conditioners

Especially if you are coarse or curly, your hair constantly craves moisture.  Thick, rich conditioners are needed to tame your tresses and keep things manageable.   Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner reconstructs the hair with keratin and argan oil.  ISH Rescue Ionic Conditioner is an awesome detangler and protects the hair from heat styling.

Double Duty: Turn your conditioner into a luxury hair treatment with hot oil.  Take a spoonful each of olive oil and castor oil.  Castor oil is an excellent humectant and it’s also great for sealing the hair cuticle.  You can also use your other favorite oils like jojoba oil and coconut oil.  Heat them in the microwave for 30 seconds and mix them into 1/4 cup of conditioner.  Apply to the hair and let it sit for about 10 minutes.  It will work best with heat, and Hair Therapy Wrap will keep your hair warm for up to 30 minutes.  Your hair will be super hydrated and the oils will give your hair a lovely sheen.
